Okay. It's a hot sunny Saturday. Croatia just suffered a shocking defeat and i just came back from the National Museum yesterday. The picture above is one of the very few exhibits i took.
It's about My Raffles (Brit) and Mr "Van Der Capellen"(Dutch).
I thought this was one of the defining moments of Singapore. In the 1800s, there was a tug-o-war over Singapore and the whole Malayan archipelago. Many deals were made and in the end. Sir Raffles saved the Peninsula and Singapore for themselves and had to give up Indonesian archipelago and Philippines to the Dutch.
Well. I guess in the end, Sir Raffles being smart, got the better of the deals. Singapore, today, is still a flourishing port and is one of the Best countries in the world. We have to thank the Brits k? We just cant take History for granted..
If we were under Mr Van Der Capellen's rule, I wonder what would have had happened to us.. hmm..
Indonesia, Philippines...
